Episode on the Fly - Worry

  • Worry is always about something that might happen in the future.
  • It’s not about what’s happening in the present.
  • We can always handle the present moment.
  • In the present we have real circumstances so even if it’s dangerous we can problem solve, think critically and begin finding solutions.
  • The present is do-able.
  • It’s just our thoughts about the future that are intolerable because the future is unknown.
  • We can’t strategize and begin solving a problem that doesn’t even exist yet because we don’t know the parameters of the problem so the brain runs wild trying to solve for all possible scenarios.
  • Which is, of course, impossible.
  • Even in the middle of a challenge or trial, sometimes you can’t see the solution past today, and that’s ok.
  • Sometimes you can’t even see the solution past the next 5 mintues, and you don’t need to.
  • Worry is always your imagination running wild about a future moment.
  • It’s a misuse of your imagination.
  • Use your imagination to dream up beautiful amazing scenarios.
  • Save the problem solving for present moment challenges when needed.
